GROWTH STATISTICS

A number of influences impact PSA's programming, including sports participation, the community's population and the prospect of hosting more regional tournaments. As PSA leaders look to the future, they must consider how growth statistics have impacted the organization so far, and how they are expected to impact the organization in the future. Statistics include:

  • An increase in the number of youth and adults who participate in the association's programs. Since PSA formed in 2004, the number of participants has grown to more than 900 youth and adults. Leaders believe this number will continue to increase.
  • An estimated increase in the number of households and families in Holdrege. According to the Nebraska Public Power District, the number of households in Holdrege is expected to climb, which will impact the number of participants in PSA's programs.
  • The potential for a greater economic impact for Holdrege. PSA can only host 28 teams per tournament because of the number of fields available. According to the Amateur Softball Association, the economic impact of hosting tournaments increases considerably as more teams are accommodated. For example, the economic impact of hosting a 31-team men's softball tournament is $195,300, whereas the economic impact of hosting a 59-team men's softball tournament is $283,500. By doubling the number of teams that could be hosted, PSA tournaments and programs could greatly impact the Holdrege economy.
